Registry Defrag – Why Has My PC Slowed Down?

Compressing your PC registry is one sure way to boost the performance of your PC. There are a number of excellent tools available online to easily gain a lot of space on the registry. One excellent tool I often recommend is Registry Defrag.

What is a registry? Given its importance on a Windows OS, it’s quite surprising that a great number of users ignore its very existence. In simple terms the registry is the area of your operating system where all system settings and configurations are located.

Why did my PC slow down recently? One common reason your PC may have slowed down recently is that your registry has got cluttered with unnecessary objects and entries. By cleaning them out, you help the system pick up speed and return to its normal performance.

How do I defrag my registry? to defragment and compact your Windows XP registry is quite easy. The Registry Defrag will scan through the registry to remove slack spaces, reducing the registry size and ultimately the amount of RAM the registry takes up, and improving your computer performance. Once this is done, reboot your machine and almost immediately you will notice an improvement.

PC optimization tips. Here are a few ideas on how to keep your PC’s performance as high as possible.

  • Set a registry scan routine. Many good registry repair tools have such functions. I personally suggest a once-a-week routine. Set the registry cleaner to run, say, every Sunday night.
  • Be wary of free stuff. Free utilities distributed online are notoriously know to spread viruses, Trojans and other malware. Before any download be completely certain that the software source is reliable and trustworthy.
  • Get your drivers from the manufacturer. Most PC and components manufacturers provide free support and downloads on their sites. Instead of going for third-party distributions, stick to the original codes.
  • Reduce your social network use. These also contribute to clog your registry. If you absolutely have to use them, at least be sure to run a registry clean-up once you log out.
